Matthew Scheffler is a writer, director with a passion for genre storytelling. He has three amazing children with his producing partner, Meghan-Michele, and together, this family of five is conquering the indie film and playground scenes!
Beginning his career in Boston working in the art department on commercials, Matt landed a position at Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO, where he became the scripted Field Producer, earning 2x Peabody Awards and producing 5x EMMY winning segments.
After five seasons and 150 episodes, he parted ways to prioritize his dream of writing and directing original stories, starting with The Traveler. He spent the next seven years moonlighting the short into existence while gleaning indie producing knowledge on Random Acts of Flyness, Black Twitter: A People’s History, the Sundance winning feature, Ricky, and directing branded-commercials for BMW, CBS, and Reese’s Puffs. His horror feature spec, What To Expect When You’re Expecting Werewolves, was a finalist at the LA International Screenwriting Festival, and he was described by the Blacklist as “a writer to watch.”
With The Traveler complete, Matt looks to launch this wholly original short into afeature film that captivates audiences and terrifies his children, just as the short has!
